Abstract
Objective: This study investigates new reasons for the declining age in the occurrence of ¡°forward neck¡±. We hypothesize that it may be due to poor lifestyle choices and constant use of smart phones and other electronic devices.

Participants and Methods: The experiment took place for 10 months, starting September 1, 2013. The participants in our research were 34 students of DongNam Health College, ages between 20 and 29 years old. Two xray shots were taken of each subject in both AP view and lateral views; however, there was a focus on the latter. The following points were measured to determine whether the subject had ¡°forward neck¡±: (A) distance between head of humerus and EAM, (B) distance between EAM and C1, (C) distance between C1 and C2, (D) cervical angle, and (E) craniovertebral angle.

Results: Changes in the Cobb¡¯s Angle were found during the follow-up exam after 10 months, showing signs of ¡°forward neck¡±. Such signs weren¡¯t visible in the initial xray. All subjects were asked to participate in a 10 question survey about their lifestyle. From the survey, it was found that all participants had experienced neck pain in the morning.

Conclusion: Over the 10 months research period, there was a 26% increase in the number of participants with ¡°forward neck¡±. Because there wasn¡¯t much change in people¡¯s daily routines over the 10 months period, we conclude that smart phones and electronic devices are the reason for the increase in ¡°forward neck¡± cases. In order to prevent ¡°forward neck¡±, people must make changes to their posture and lifestyle. To fix ¡°forward neck¡±, people will need to receive physical therapy treatments.
